Description: The Hope Ranch is atop the Wolf Mountains of south central Montana. Reno, Davies, Big and Little Thompson Creeks originate and flow for miles through the ranch. This water, and the lush grass from 16-20 inches of annual precipitation create the best grass & stock water in the region. 3,000 yearlings averaging about 2 lbs/day gain, have been summered here for the past 12 years. The meadows, after spring grazing, have been producing 750 tons of hay which winter 200-600 calves. There are remains of logging camps supplying RR ties for the railroad in the late 1800s. Dad bought the ranch in 1944, and now the son is retiring. Although the ranch is on the Crow Indian Reservation, the leases are very stable, many dating back to the time of purchase. There are three homes, the county's largest old barn, and a working corral with scale and hydraulic chute.
Of historic significance, George Armstrong Custer rode across this ranch his last morning
